Frauenfeld

Frauenfeld station is a public transport hub for the entire region. It also acts as an interface between private motorized transport and public transport. This was not always the case and is thanks to the town of Frauenfeld’s long-standing, intensive commitment to high-quality, sustainable urban development. The station area and combined mobility have always played a key role. In 1991-1992, a two-stage ideas competition was launched for the station area in Frauenfeld and won by Jean-Pierre Dürig. The winning project and a farsighted transport concept were used as a basis to produce a comprehensive development idea. This idea was transformed into a design master plan called "Bahnhof 2000", which specified the framework for the development. The new station building and the separation of through-traffic (Bahnhofstrasse is on a lower level with the first underground roundabout) from traffic related to station business laid the foundations for the promising project "Regionale Drehscheibe des öffentlichen Verkehrs" (regional public transport hub).

The great success of the measures and the ever-expanding offering have already had an impact on the future development of the station area. Plans are underway to redesign the signage in the station and surrounding area. The new design will make the connections between the various modes of transport more direct, shorter and weatherproof. In addition, the information requirements of visitors will be better catered to with a new information point. Additional elements of the overall concept (residential developments, park & ride and bike & ride facilities) are also being implemented. The new measures aim to boost the quality and attractiveness of the transport hub and its range of services, and to further upgrade the whole area around the station.
