Historic adventure journey over four alpine passes

A PostBus in the mountains

When PostBus Switzerland Ltd recommences its mountain pass services, the central Swiss Alps will have an added attraction: the new "ViaPostaAlpina" cultural route. It was introduced to the general public on Wednesday 13 June at the Swiss Alpine Museum in Berne. The route follows historic routes over the four passes of Grimsel, Nufenen, Gotthard and Susten.

A PostBus in the mountains - for the Swiss, this image reminds them of their childhood and makes them think of home. Why does this public means of transport belong to Switzerland every bit as much as the three-tone post horn sounding before a tight bend? "ViaStoria - Centre of Transport History", has found exciting answers to this question on behalf of PostBus Switzerland Ltd. This was how the 163 kilometre-long cultural route "ViaPostaAlpina" came into being. The six daily stages take in historic paths and roads from Meiringen (Berne) via Guttannen (Berne), Ulrichen (Valais), Airolo (Ticino), Göschenen (Uri) and Gadmen (Berne) back to Meiringen. Spectacular PostBus tours can be combined with hiking, as the mood takes you. Whatever the weather, "ViaPostAlpina" is always fun and ideal for groups and families, catering to all their different tastes. The PostBuses will operate on the ViaPostaAlpina from mid-June until the beginning of October.

Anyone who would like to discover more about the 160-year-old history of the alpine postal services can book the "ViaPostaAlpina" package through the tour operator, Swiss Trails. The entire route (six days/five nights), or a part of the route, if preferred, can be booked.
