Andermatt–Furka Pass–Gletsch

In Andermatt you will board one of the yellow coaches that make up Switzerland’s muchloved Alpine Postbus fleet. Your trip over the Furka Pass to Gletsch, with views of the famous Rhone Glacier, promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Gletsch–Grimsel Pass–Meiringen

The next leg of your journey takes you from Gletsch to the Grimsel Pass. After skirting a series of placid reservoirs the journey continues down to Meiringen, the birthplace of the world-famous «meringue».

Meiringen–Grosse Scheidegg–Grindelwald

As you continue on your Postbus journey in the Bernese Oberland, enjoy the rugged beauty of the Reichenbach Valley, travelled two centuries ago by the likes of Johann Wolfgang con Goethe, Felix Mendelssohn and Lord Byron, as they discovered the fascinating mountain landscape of the Jungfrau region. Glaciers, cows and Alpine huts all make the Swiss Alps look just as you expected.

Alternative: Meringen–Susten Pass–Andermatt

Instead of travelling to Grindelwald you can also return to Andermatt via the Susten Pass from Meiringen. With its many spectacular views – e.g. over the Stein Glacier – the Susten Pass road is among Switzerland’s most delightful Alpine passes. Descending from the pass you will reach Wassen. In Switzerland, every child knows about the pretty little Baroque church conspicuously sitting on its own hill! Three times it will catch the eyes of train passengers on the Gotthard route, always from a different angle. As a crowning finale the Postbus will take you through the hairpin turns of the Schöllenen Gorge up to Andermatt. You will see the legendary Devil’s Bridge and the Suworow Monument. The latter reminds visitors of the Russian soldiers who crossed the Alps in 1799 under General Suworow.
