Domodossola
Domodossola is an Italian regional centre of commerce and industry with charming old streets and attractive sights, such as the Chavez Museum and the stations of the cross up to Monte Calvario. A large market – equally popular among natives and tourists – is held here every Saturday.
Simplon and Simplon Pass
On the way up to the Simplon Pass, shortly after the impressive Gondo Gorge, you will find a beautifully restored rustic hotel with a great tradition. Napoleon is said to have stayed here in 1806! On arriving at the summit of the pass, you will have reached the highest point of your trip – at an impressive 2,006 metres above sea-level. Enjoy the enchanting views across to the sunny plateau villages of Belalp, Riederalp, Rosswald and Bettmeralp, before your comfortable Postbus takes you the rest of the way along the Simplon Pass road to Brig.
Brig-Glis
At Brig-Glis you will board another Postbus for the next leg of your trip towards Switzerland’s highest peaks. Brig is the starting point of a fascinating journey through gorges and pretty Valais villages to Saas Fee.
Saas Fee
Saas Fee – the “pearl of the Alps” – is a charming, car-free resort nestling at the foot of glaciers and a ring of 4,000 metre peaks. The Saas Valley is also known as the home of Switzerland’s ski champion Pirmin Zurbriggen.
