Zernez
Located at the centre of the Engadine plateau, the village of Zernez is an ideal departure point for excursions, hikes and bicycle rides through the Engadine, the Swiss National Park, a trip to Davos or into the Müstair Valley.
Zernez–Müstair
Shortly after Zernez the road begins its long climb towards the Ofen Pass. The Engadin–Meran Route Express passes the village of La Drossa – from where a tunnel leads into the Italian duty-free town of Livigno – towards Il Fuorn and Buffalora, the departure points of spectacular hikes in the Swiss National Park. From the top of the Ofen Pass (2,049m) you can enjoy views over Val Müstair and into the Vinschgau Valley. The mighty Ortler massif with its eternal snow dominates to the southwest. After passing through the quaint villages of the Val Müstair, you reach the border village of Müstair with its world-famous monastery (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage).
Müstair–Mals–Meran
Between Müstair and Taufers you will cross the border into Italy. Shortly thereafter you arrive at the medieval town of Glurns. The completely intact ring wall of Glurns features seven defence towers and encloses picturesque corners and alleyways, as well as stately patrician mansions and arcades that captivate visitors with their charm. A few minutes later you arrive at Mals station, from where the Vinschgau Valley railway passes through pretty villages to arrive in Meran an hour later.
