Iron ore was mined for centuries in the Upper Frick Valley. An adventure trail with 10 stops that begins in Wölflinswil highlights this history. In Herznach you reach the real centre of the iron trail, the old mine, where – subject to advance booking – you can ride the gallery railway to the entrance of the former main tunnel, view a wonderful collection including fossils from the mine, and enjoy a convivial drink in the disused mine silo.
This walk leads you across vast, sunny plateaus and through sleepy valleys – two of the Jura’s most characteristic landscapes. For the most part, the trail runs along clay paths and is therefore ideal for a winter walk. If you wish to shorten the route, feel free to start or end your walk at any of the villages along the way. All are well served by Postbuses. The entire route is suitable for pushchairs.
