Schellen-Ursli Path in Guarda
The age-old Chalandamarz festival (calendae martius is Latin for the first day of the month of March) is celebrated in many different forms in the villages of the Engadine Valley to drive out the evil spirits of winter with loud bell clanging and whip cracking. On the “Schellen-Ursli Path” in Guarda the custom really comes to life again, because this village, high above the valley, is the setting of the story about the local boy who didn’t have a bell for the Chalandamarz festival.
