Berne profile

Each year more than 17.8 million passengers use the Postbuses in the Berne region for travelling to work, school or the shops, or for excursions.
PostBus mountain pass trips in the Central Alps are a unique experience.

PostBus is an intrinsic part of Switzerland, and is characterized by security, reliability and innovation. As one of nine regions, Region Berne is responsible for 95 PostBus routes.

The catchment area

The Region Berne PostBus catchment area stretches from Seeland (Ins/Erlach) in the west to the Central Alps (Meiringen/Gadmen) in the east. Its most northerly point is Bucheggberg in the canton of Solothurn, and its most southerly point is Les Diablerets. The German-speaking part of Canton Fribourg also falls within this catchment area.

On behalf of the Federal and cantonal authorities, and on the legal basis of the Railways Act, PostBus provides reliable regional public road-based transport. PostBus is therefore an important link in the overall mobility chain, and provides feeder services for the railways in rural areas and conurbations.  But its business areas also include contract travel and excursions as well as management and engineering services.

Customer advice and sales

PostBus has the largest number of public transport sales outlets – every driver can provide you with the ticket you need. At the PostBus station at Berne railway station (between the Schanzenpost and the short-stay railway parking area), we give our customers advice and provide them with the full range of Swiss public transport tickets, including Libero fare partnership tickets.

In addition, 14 post offices in the canton of Berne sell a selection of tickets on our behalf.

PostBus operators

Our 4 PostBus depots in Berne, Worb, Spiez and Interlaken work together with 16 locally based transport operators to look after our customers' daily needs.
PostBus operators provide a large number of services on behalf of PostBus. The only external difference in PostBus operators' vehicles is the company address.
